Epigraphs
A lot of people think of epigraphs in the literary sense: that is to say, those quotes that some authors place as introductions to their works or introductions to the chapters of their books. This, of course, is a top-of-mind kind of thing, and to a certain degree, epigraphs could be thought of in this manner. But for the purpose of this website, we will be using the non-literary definition of “epigraph”, in which epigraphs are inscriptions that are found on materials that could stand the test of time – these include, among other things, stone and metal.
Epigraphs are quite important in history in that they are considered as crucial artifacts and material remains of literate cultures of the past. The study of epigraphs, epigraphy, entails analysis and classification of these material remains that would eventually bring to light aspects of that long-gone culture. Detail is very, very important in this case.
Epigraphs.Com, is a domain that recognizes the importance of epigraphs in the immortalizing of a culture. Because of this, it has fully dedicated itself to do its part in immortalizing America: by collecting American epigraphs and hosting them here. We hope that you take as much pride in this as we do.
